Hearts Break as News of Fashion Icon Iris Apfel’s Passing Is Confirmed

The iconic Iris Apfel has passed away.

In an Instagram post post shared to her official account, the fashion icon’s team confirmed the heartbreaking news. She was 102 years old.

Iris first became the fashion icon she is today back in the 80s. She was known for eclectic style, bright colors, and beautiful personality.

She would affectionately refer to herself as the “geriatric starlet.” Her last post on Instagram was a celebration of her “half birthday” just one day ago, which happens to land on leap years only.

“In half birthdays, I’m only 26!!! I’m 102 and a half today… happy leap day!

Here are some of our favorite Iris Apfel styles:

Iris’s legendary eye wear is something we will always remember. Including her propensity for always pushing the fashion limits.

And some how never missing the mark.

It’s been reported that Iris, before her passing, had become one of the most photographed women in the fashion world.

Again, only adding to her “Icon” status.

But her life wasn’t only about fashion. As TMZ reports, Iris was a professor, a brand ambassador, a designer, a textile guru, and more.

Did you know Iris was hired by 9 different presidents to do restoration work on the White House? Incredible.

While Iris never had any children. She and her late husband, ad executive Carl Apfel were married for 67 years before his passing in 2015.

Iris shared her secrets to her long-lasting, loving relationship with Carl back in 2023. Take a listen:

Rest in peace, Iris Apfel.
